Señor Pollo – Poblacion, Makati

Weekends are for cheat meals. So one weekday that Miko went to Makati to meet up with me for lunch, we went to Señor Pollo to have some enjoyable, healthy food.

image

It’s a street away from it’s sister resto, El Chupacabra. We went there around 2pm, so there were only a few customers. It tends to be crowded during dinner time.

image

Señor Pollo is known for its Latin Chicken. There’s fried and roasted pollo. We had the latter.

As we waited for our food to arrive, we can’t help but notice the artsy, colorful walls. Kudos to whoever did these paintings. :)

No idea why they chose this excerpt from Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece, Love in the Time of Cholera…

The food was brought to us after 5 minutes upon being ordered. Miko and I both had a quarter of a chicken with 2 sides. I had mashed sweet potato and a fresh salad. He had 2 cups of salad kasi mas nagda-diet siya. Hehehe! :p Pero nagCoke siya. Ako, watermelon shake.

Everything was delicious and we only spent around 600 pesos. The chicken was roasted to perfection and tasty inside-out. Loved the sauces especially the chimichuri. Other sides that you might want to consider are their fried plantains and jalapeño mac n cheese. Oh, and they have wagyu bacon fries!

Señor Pollo also has a branch in Quezon City.

UPDATE:

We had dinner in Señor Pollo last week and Miko had the same dish- roast chicken with mashed sweet potato and tossed salad. He really loves the simply vinaigrette they use.

I tried their spicy fried chicken with macaroni salad and fried plantains as sides:

The macaroni salad was bland. It has bell peppers, olives and lettuce and there was barely any mayo or cream. The chicken was crispilicious and really spicy. Thank goodness for the ice cold Brew Kettle that helped me get through the meal. Hehe

For dessert, we had the Flan de Naranja. No choice, because this is the only dessert they have. Buti na lang, masarap naman. :) It’s leche flan with mandarin oranges at the bottom.

Metro 9 Café – San Antonio Village, Makati

wpid-dsc_5150.jpg

Yipeee for another place that I can spend my alone time during Sundays! The Metro 9 Café is located at the fairly new Linear condo at Mayapis cor Malugay, near The Collective.

wpid-dsc_5143.jpg

They have several kinds of coffee, milk tea, cakes, pastries, and sandwiches to choose from. (Click on the image to enlarge.)  wpid-dsc_5147.jpg

You can also choose the sweetness level and ice level of your beverage.

wpid-dsc_5146.jpg

They have small cake slice, but hey– the cost of a slice is much cheaper than Starbucks or the likes. I got a slice of blueberry cheesecake for only P85.  wpid-dsc_5144.jpg

It wasn’t noisy at the al fresco area when I went there, because there weren’t a lot of vehicles passing by. I was able to read a book and write on my journal in peace.

wpid-dsc_5154.jpg

And as for my Caramel Macchiato (P99) and cheesecake, both were yum-yum-yummy! This is definitely my new me-time spot. :D

Sakura Japanese Restaurant and Grocery – Glorietta

Sakura has been in Glorietta since time immemorial, but I only got to try their food recently.

Miko had the Miso Ramen (325php). It has pork, shitake mushrooms, and assorted vegetables. The soup was yum, but we wanted it thicker. And parang instant noodles ang gamit. Just confused with the description on their menu. It says the miso ramen has ground pork while the shoyu ramen has roast pork. Was this a hybrid?

wpid-dsc_4657.jpg

Thumbs up for their Fried Gyoza (195php). We asked for some mayo and they gave it to us free of charge. Yay!

wpid-dsc_4659.jpg

I had the Salmon Teppanyaki Bento that includes the salmon teppanyaki (salmon belly in sweet-savory sauce), salad (loved the dressing they used), salmon sashimi (in fairness, really fresh), rice (don’t think they use Japanese rice), and watermelon. I was satisfied with this bento choice.

Nothing fancy here in Sakura, but I do understand why they’ve been around for two decades already. It’s a good resto, there are just a lot of new ones that are far better.

Alchemy Bistro Bar – Poblacion, Makati

I’ve only had some drinks, barchow and dessert in the two times I’ve been in Alchemy.

The first time (when I was with my friend Shani of Aromateria), I had garlic sausages (250php), a couple of SMLs (around 70php a bottle), and this really powerful elixir (that’s what they call it) Ying-Yang. That’s the iced-tea looking thing beside the sausages. It has tequila, beer, elderflower, cranberry juice, and chili! Pretty good and really strong. I think it’s 280php/glass.

wpid-dsc_4462.jpg

Shani had the Grilled Salmon Skewers with Wasabi Aoli (245php) and

wpid-dsc_4469.jpg

the Chocolate Crepe (180php). It has Nutella and served with vanilla ice cream.

wpid-dsc_4470.jpg

I liked the optics and the sounds. I hope they can do something about the mosquitoes.

wpid-dsc_4472.jpg

There was a band playing 90’s OPM music downstairs and there’s an art event at the 2nd floor that time.

wpid-dsc_4473.jpg

My second time there was with my BFF Donnie. I had wine (200php/glass), he had Tequila Sunrise (I think almost the same price as the wine), and we shared the a crepe for dessert. (Galing kami sa Dong Won Garden sa kabilang street lang.)

wpid-dsc_4706.jpg

The Crepe Suzette was delicious! It has the perfect mix of caramel and orange butter sauce, made better with the vanilla ice cream.

wpid-dsc_4702.jpg

I’ll try their entrees next time. And maybe go there when there’s an interesting gig.
